Video Game violence featured in GMA's I-Witness

The Philippines' mainstream media often demonstrate a lack of understanding when it comes to video games. Recently, GMA-7 produced an episode of I-Witness on the topic of violence in video games. However, given their track record, it is doubtful that they truly comprehend what they presented. For instance, screenshots taken from their website show errors such as calling the Sony PSone a "GAME CONSULE" and referring to Pikachu as "Picachu".

This lack of understanding is not unique to GMA-7, as other Philippine mainstream media outlets have also made similar mistakes in the past. In one example, ABS-CBN's TV Patrol featured a raid on video karera machine operators. The reporter covering the event stated that the police were investigating the origin of the "dragon" stickers found on the machines. However, the sticker was later revealed to be a logo from the game Mortal Kombat, and not related to any syndicate or criminal activity.

It's important for mainstream media to educate themselves and provide accurate information about video games and the gaming industry. Misinformation and a lack of understanding can lead to misconceptions and negative stereotypes, which can be harmful to the gaming community.
