Nintendo DS Sales Continue to Grow
Nintendo Wii may have shown signs of slowing down but its handheld counterpart shows the opposite.
"In Japan, more than one in five people own a DS. On the other hand, in the US and in Europe, the sales have not yet reached to one in ten people yet," Nintendo president Satoru Iwata said during a recent presentation.
26.1 million DS systems have been purchased in Japan, while Europe and US markets have 33.1 million and 29.3 million respectively. Had each of those handhelds been bought by a different person, more than one in five Japanese people would own a DS.
"Even in Japan where the DS ownership ratio to the population is very high, Nintendo DS sales are continuing, so it can be said that there is still ample room for penetration in the overseas markets," Iwata noted.
