Toyota is Recalling Almost 3 Million Cars Globally Due to Defects
Toyota will be recalling over 3 million cars worldwide because of possible defects in their airbags and a separate issue regarding their emission control units and possibly some models here in the Philippines were affected. Details after the jump.
Toyota said that evaporative fuel emissions control units in models produced from 2006 to 2015 including the Prius, Auris and Corolla (now rebadge as Altis locally) were prone to cracks, which could lead to fuel leaks over time. Prius and Lexus CT200h cars made from 2010 to 2012 could have a small crack in a weld on their air bag inflators, which could lead to the separation of the inflator chambers.
Toyota said the affected cars were sold across the globe, 1.55 million are in Japan; 713,000 in Europe; 35,000 in China; and 568,000 in other areas.
The Prius, Lexus CT200h and Corolla are sold in our country and it may or may not be involved in the recall. Toyota Motor Philippines has no statement yet regarding this matter.
