Willem Dafoe Will Voice Ryuk in Netflix's Death Note

The Japanese series Death Note centers around a high school student named Light Yagami who discovers a supernatural notebook that allows him to kill anyone by writing the victim's name while picturing his or her face. The plot follows his attempts to become God by creating a New World cleansed of evil, using the book.

Death Note was first serialized by Shueisha in the Japanese manga magazine Weekly Shonen Jump from the first issue in December 2003 to May 2006, with 108 chapters in total. There has already been an anime, 3 live action films, and live action TV series released in Japan. A new film titled Death Note: Light up the NEW world is also set to open in Japan on October 29.

Shea Whigham (Boardwalk Empire) as James Turner
Adam Wingard (The Guest, You're Next) has signed on to direct the film, and Jeremy Slater (Fantastic Four) will write the script.
