DICT May Extend SIM Card Registration Deadline
The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) is considering extending the SIM card registration deadline, which is currently set for April 26. As of March 7, only 25% of subscribers have registered, prompting the DICT to deliberate on the matter. If you have yet to register your SIM, read on to learn about the consequences of not doing so and what you can do to comply with the law.
Under the SIM Card Registration Act, all existing subscribers must register their mobile numbers with their service network to eliminate the prevalence of digital fraud. Failure to register will result in the deactivation of your mobile number and may only be reactivated upon signing up with your telco provider. Telco players are also instructed to deactivate all SIMs that would be sold to the public upon approval of the law.
If you have yet to register, don't wait for the deadline to approach. Contact your service network to learn about the registration process and the requirements needed. Keep in mind that the DICT may extend the deadline, but it's better to comply as soon as possible to avoid the hassle of having your number deactivated.
