Google Doodle Features Filipino Dish, Adobo
Google Philippines recently unveiled a new Google Doodle that features one of the country's most beloved dishes – adobo. The iconic dish, which is often referred to as the unofficial national dish of the Philippines, is a staple in Filipino households and is loved for its tender and juicy flavor.
Adobo can be made with a variety of meats, including seared pork, chicken, beef, or vegetables. Its key ingredients include white vinegar and soy sauce, with bay leaves, garlic, sugar, and black pepper added for flavor. Depending on the region or household, other ingredients like onions, ginger, lemongrass, chili peppers, and coconut milk can also be added.
The dish is so versatile that it can even be made with seafood or vegetables like kangkong or sitaw. Adobong puti, a variant that uses only vinegar and no soy sauce, is also popular in the Visayas region and is regarded by some as the original indigenous style.
Mervin Wenke, Head of Communications and Public Affairs at Google Philippines, shared that adobo is an essential part of the Filipino story and that it is a well-loved comfort food that crosses all economic boundaries.
Adobo's appearance in a Google Doodle is a significant moment for the Filipino people, and it highlights the uniqueness and diversity of Filipino cuisine. The doodle was created by Anthony Irwin, who recalled ordering a chicken adobo from a nearby restaurant that brought back fond memories.
The doodle's design aims to capture the simple childhood joy of savoring food that makes home feel like home. With adobo being featured on Google's homepage, it is a proud moment for Filipinos all over the world to celebrate their culture and cuisine.
