Nintendo to Shut Down Wii U and 3DS eShops This March 27: What You Need to Know
If you're a fan of Nintendo's Wii U and 3DS consoles, you may want to pay attention to this news: Nintendo has announced that they will be closing down their Nintendo eShop for Wii U and 3DS on March 27, 2023. This means that it will no longer be possible to download new free content, including game demos.
If you're someone who has an unused Nintendo eShop Card lying around, you should know that it won't be possible to add cash to your account on the Nintendo eShop for Wii U or 3DS using the card after August 29, 2022. However, you can still redeem download vouchers until March 27, 2023.
It's important to note that before the ability to buy content expires on March 27, 2023, Nintendo advises all customers to use any cash in their Nintendo 3DS and/or Wii U eShop balance. Users can use the funds to buy content on any of these consoles and systems until March 27, 2023, if they have linked their Nintendo Network ID funds with the funds attached to their Nintendo Account. After that, the money can only be used on Nintendo Switch content.
It's also worth noting that no changes are planned for the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch. So if you're a fan of the Switch, you don't need to worry about any impending changes.
It's important to keep in mind that the changes made to the Nintendo eShop for Wii U and 3DS will also be reflected in any applications available for purchase on these platforms, such as StreetPass Mii Plaza, the Theme Shop, and Nintendo Badge Arcade. However, Wii U consoles and 3DS devices will still be able to redownload games and DLC, get software upgrades, and take advantage of online play even after March 27, 2023, and for the foreseeable future.
If you still have your Nintendo Wii U and 3DS consoles, be sure to take advantage of any cash in your Nintendo eShop balance before March 27, 2023. And if you're planning on buying any new content for these consoles, make sure to do so before the deadline as well.
