Remembering Takahiro Kimura: The Man Behind the Characters of Code Geass and More
On March 5, 2023, the anime world lost one of its most talented character designers and chief animation directors, Takahiro Kimura. At the age of 58, he passed away after battling with Amyloidosis, a rare disease that causes the accumulation of misshapen proteins in a person's organs and tissues.
Kimura made his mark in the industry through his incredible work in the popular sci-fi action franchise Code Geass, which began in 2006 and has since expanded into various anime spinoffs, movies, manga, and video game adaptations. He also contributed to other anime titles, including Snow White with the Red Hair, Sengoku Basara – Samurai Kings, and Valvrave the Liberator, among others.
The staff members of Code Geass paid tribute to Kimura, recognizing his incredible talent and his contributions to the franchise. They said, "He created many characters from his animation and illustrations… and created wonderful animated films that moved our hearts."
Kimura's work will be greatly missed, but his legacy will live on through the characters he created and the impact he made on the anime industry.
