UP Women's Volleyball Team Seeks Change of Leadership

The University of the Philippines Women's Volleyball Team (UP WVT) has filed a petition to the outgoing UP Diliman Chancellor Fidel Nemenzo, seeking a change of leadership in their program. The team accuses their current manager, Angela Villamil, of "mismanagement" and listed several issues in a two-page letter.

The team's letter expressed disappointment with their management team, citing delayed and reduced monthly allowances, poor treatment of injuries, neglected requests for new equipment, and Villamil's alleged "bad attitude," among others. According to the team, they have yet to receive any response from Villamil or the UP Varsity Sports Program, one month after filing the letter on January 29, 2023.

The UP volleyball team believes that these issues put their campaign for UAAP Season 84 in jeopardy, as they lack funds and a sense of urgency from their current management. As a result, the team is urging Chancellor Nemenzo to reinstate the Nowhere To Go But UP Foundation, Inc. (NTGBUP) as their official team manager.

In their letter, the team emphasized their love for UP and their confidence in NTGBUP's ability to provide a sustainable program. The NTGBUP also backs the school's basketball program, and the UP WVT believes that they can take things further with them as their official team managers.

This move by the UP Women's Volleyball Team highlights the importance of proper management and support for student-athletes. These issues should be addressed promptly and appropriately to ensure that the athletes can focus on their training and competition without added stress and uncertainty. Hopefully, the UP administration will take the necessary steps to resolve these issues and provide the support that the UP WVT needs to succeed.
