PAGCOR Justifies ₱3-Million Spending on Logo Amidst Backlash
The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) has come under fire for its allocation of ₱3 million towards a controversial logo. However, Pagcor's chairman, Alejandro Tengco, defended the expenditure, stating that the amount covered more than just the logo itself. He clarified that the winning project bidder was responsible for providing additional deliverables, such as manuals.
Tengco emphasized that the new logo would be utilized across PAGCOR's properties throughout the Philippines. It would be featured on stationery and envelopes, serving various purposes beyond mere visual representation.
The logo, revealed during PAGCOR's 40th anniversary celebration on July 11, depicts a flame in shades of blue and red. Tengco described it as symbolizing the ignition of change and the drive for progress.
Following public backlash, a House resolution was filed, calling for an investigation into the gaming regulator's new logo. Cagayan de Oro 2nd District Representative Rufus Rodriguez expressed his interest in launching a probe into the logo, questioning its cost, originality, and the necessity for its creation.
Rodriguez urged PAGCOR to abandon the new logo and instead focus on combating illegal gaming activities.
Despite the criticism, PAGCOR stands firm in its decision, asserting that the logo represents a significant investment with multifaceted benefits beyond its visual appeal.
