philnews.co.kr Is Stealing Content From Philippine Websites
Content scraping is the act of taking content from one website and publishing it on another website without the permission of the original author. This is a serious problem, as it can damage the reputation of the original author and website, and it can also lead to lost traffic and revenue.
I recently discovered that the website philnews.co.kr is a content scraper. I found that they had scraped content from GameOPS, as well as from several other Philippine websites, including Digital Filipina, Blog PH, Wazzup PH, Manila Shopper, Nognog in the City, and Mindanao Gold Star Daily.

I was irritated to find that content from GameOPS had been stolen, and I considered sending a cease and desist email to the owner of philnews.co.kr. However, I decided to write this article first, in the hopes that their bot would scrape content about their own plagiarism. I thought it would be funny to see an article exposing them on their own website.
The irony of the situation is that philnews.co.kr has a copyright notice on their website that claims copyright on content they have plagiarized. The notice states:
"Philippine News All contents (articles) are protected by copyright law, and unauthorized reproduction, copying, distribution, etc. are prohibited. © Philippine News. All rights reserved"
This is a clear example of hypocrisy. If philnews.co.kr truly believes that their content is protected by copyright law, then they should stop plagiarizing content from other websites.
If you are a website owner, there are a few things you can do to protect yourself from content scraping.
- Monitor Your Content: Regularly check your website's analytics and set up Google Alerts to get notified if someone else uses your content without permission.
- Copyright Notice: Display a clear copyright notice on your website to assert your rights over the content.
- Disable Right-Click: Although it's not foolproof, disabling right-click can discourage casual content thieves.
- Watermark Your Images: Adding a watermark to your images can discourage unauthorized use.
- Report Abuse: Contact the domain registrant and web hosting of the offender and report their copyright violation.
- Legal Action: If your content has been scraped, consider sending a Cease and Desist notice to the offender. If they refuse to comply, consult with legal experts about possible legal actions
If your content was plagiarized or scraped by philnews.co.kr, you may use the following information to send a Cease and Desist email or report them directly to their hosting provider for service abuse:
