GameOPS Unlocks Level 25: A Legacy Beyond Gaming

What started in 1998 as a small personal e-zine, igad's Video Game HotSpot, evolved into GameOPS – The Ultimate Filipino Site Dedicated to Video Games on March 19, 2000. Founded by childhood friends John Phillips Bengero and Rocky Opiña, GameOPS became a trusted source for Filipino gamers. Over the years, we expanded our coverage beyond gaming to technology, movies, and pop culture, leading to our new tagline: Beyond Gaming.

Today, we celebrate 25 years of GameOPS! While we may not be as active as before, we're still here—and we're not going anywhere.

We're proud to announce that GameOPS is now a registered trademark under the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines! Another Filipino company has been using the GAMEOPS name, but we refused to let our legacy—built over two decades—be overshadowed by a company more than 10 years younger than us. This trademark ensures that GameOPS remains ours, now and in the future.

Over the years, GameOPS has made waves in the industry. Our Pirates 'R Us articles, which explored video game piracy in the Philippines, were linked to by major sites like Engadget, Joystiq, Kotaku, and MaxConsole, proving the global reach of our work.

In 2011, we were honored with the Best Luzon Technology Blog award at the Philippine Blog Awards, a recognition of our contributions to gaming and tech journalism in the country.

And that's not all—GameOPS TV is making a comeback! We're working behind the scenes to re-launch our YouTube channel with fresh content. No definite date yet, but rest assured, we're cooking up something exciting. Stay tuned!

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey—our past and present contributors. A special shoutout to our current team who continues to keep GameOPS alive: Rain, Shabby, Mia, JV, Mina, Red, Israel, Lou, and Jhana. Your dedication and passion help us push forward.

We also take a moment to honor one of our original members, Benedict Lim, who passed away a few years ago. Your passion, dedication, and contributions will never be forgotten.

From 1998 to 2025 and beyond, thank you for being part of GameOPS. Here's to the next level!
