Chinese Man Caught with IMSI Catcher Device in Intramuros
The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) arrested a Chinese man last Tuesday in Intramuros, Manila. During the operation, agents found a device called an IMSI catcher and a Chinese passport with him.
An IMSI catcher is a device that can pretend to be a cell tower. It tricks nearby phones into connecting to it. This lets someone track phone locations, collect phone numbers, and even listen to calls and texts. Only authorized groups like the police are allowed to use it.
Authorities said they acted after receiving a tip about suspicious activities. When they checked, they quickly arrested the suspect and took the illegal device.
The man is now facing investigation. The NBI is checking if he is working with others or part of a bigger operation.
Officials remind everyone that devices like IMSI catchers can seriously harm people’s privacy and are not allowed to be used without proper permission. Investigators are still examining the equipment and gathering more information.
More updates will be released once the investigation moves forward.
